013 J at Loveland Pass

Loveland Pass is not the highest pass in Colorado, but everyone knows it because I-70 goes through a tunnel rather than go over this pass. Hazardous Cargo trucks, oddly enough, are forced to go over this pass rather than use the tunnel. I-70 has some very long, very steep hills. We saw one semi going down the grade from Eisenhower Tunnel at Loveland, brakes smoking so badly we saw the smoke two minutes before he came into view. As we got closer we could see his brake lights on steadily which is why he had hot brakes. We never decided whether he was scared out of his wits since drum brakes smoking like that are not working at all, or he was oblivious to his plight. He made it thank goodness.
